Evaluating Liver Test Abnormalities
Understanding the Pathophysiology of Liver Disease
for Health Care Providers
Course Introduction
Liver chemistries are incorporated routinely in many test panels. Consequently, healthcare providers frequently encounter abnormal test values in patients who may or may not exhibit signs and symptoms of liver disease. Extensive evaluation is not always necessary in all patients and will tax the limited healthcare resources.
Abnormal liver tests should always be interpreted in the clinical context of each individual patient. Understanding the pathophysiology of liver injury will also help direct appropriate and judicious workup of abnormal liver tests.
